We used a travel company’s rich heritage to make headlines across the industry.
To create industry and national awareness around the 50th anniversary of Ian Allan Travel – the corporate travel management company.
Meerkat PR was further tasked to handle PR for the agency for the 12 months around the 50th.
When companies celebrate milestones after being in business for many years, it’s not often news. Meerkat PR realised, however, that celebrating fifty years as one of Britain’s longest standing family-run businesses might hold a treasure trove of memorabilia, images and anecdotes.
Having worked closely with Paul Allan, son of the legendary ‘trainspotter’ Ian Allan who founded the group of companies in the 1940s, Meerkat PR uncovered a selection of travel memorabilia, which, presented in an online exhibition format, showcased a fascinating account of the rise of the leisure and corporate travel industry. The exhibition revealed everything from rare encounters with Laurel & Hardy to correspondence with Roz Hanby, the ‘face’ of British Airways in the 1970s. Within days of the start of our formal relationship, David had worked his magic for an article and colour photo to appear on the front page of a features section in the Sunday Telegraph! We haven’t looked back since then, with regular features in trade, national, and local publications, as well as local radio interviews and much exposure online. David is one of the most thick skinned, tireless ‘agitators’ I have ever met, remorseless in his resourcefulness, friendly yet highly disciplined and focused on the job in hand. Great man to have on YOUR side! …and I wrote this reference, not him!!
